IVRIS LOUCINDA MATNEY LEWIS, age 90, of Vansant and Christiansburg, Virginia passed away at English Meadows Senior Living Community on December 18, 2018. She was the last surviving daughter of the late Hiram and Maudie Mae Justus Matney. Ivris was born on January 27, 1928 in the Knox Creek section of Buchanan County.

She was an LPN and worked many years at the “Old Grundy Hospital” and later at Buchanan General Hospital. Ivris was a member of the Vansant Church of Christ. She lived “on the… Read More » hill” at Vansant for nearly 65 years until she moved to English Meadows in July of 2016.

Ivris was preceded in death by her husband Chester Lewis, Sisters: Genevie Matney, Edith Hurley, Ruby Blair, Nell Privett and brothers: Chris Matney, Stokey Oscar Matney, Burns Matney, Gedar Matney, Howard Matney and Vernon Matney. Her faithful canine companions Lady, Lucky, and Rover also preceded her. She is survived by two daughters and sons in law; Patty and John Lucas of Sturgis Kentucky and Maxine and Gary Morris of Riner, Virginia.

Two grandsons also survive, Tyler and wife Sara Morris of Christiansburg, VA and Andrew Morris of Hendersonville, NC. One brother, Monroe and wife Shirley Matney of Hurley VA survive as well as many nieces and nephews in the Grundy and Hurley area. A visitation will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday December 20 at Grundy Funeral Home followed by a Graveside service at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA, with Pastor Mike Rife of Vansant Church of Christ officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers please consider one of the following: Buchanan County Humane Society, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy, VA is honored to serve the family of IVRIS LOUCINDA MATNEY LEWIS.
