J. Brett’s Obituary Jonathan Brett Brewster, 40, of Iuka, MS, died Sunday, January 20, 2019, at his residence. Brett was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. He was employed as vice-president, funeral director, and insurance agent at his family business, Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka.
He began his career in the funeral industry in 2004 and graduated from Northwest Mississippi Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in funeral service technology in 2005, where he was named student of the year. Prior to Northwest, Brett attended the University of North Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, with an emphasis on small business/entrepreneurship management. He obtained his Life, Health, and Accident Insurance License in 2007.
Brett attained the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation in 2015 and achieved his Cremation Services Provider certification in 2018. He had recently served three terms as Northern District Governor for the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, as well as completing a term as Vice President. He was the current president-elect of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking, and music. He especially loved watching and supporting Alabama Crimson Tide football with his friends and family. Brett is survived by his mother, Dianne C. Biddle of Iuka; his father and step-mother, Bill and Joyce Brewster of Huntsville, AL; two sons, Wheeler Brewster and Everett Brewster, both of Iuka; two brothers, Bo Murphy (Joley) of Iuka, and Max Brewster of Washington, D.C.; a step-sister, LeeAnn Wright (Brad) of Huntsville, AL; and his nieces and nephews, Johnathan Murphy and Lilah Grace Murphy of Iuka, Nellie Biddle of Starkville, and Paige Wright and Grace Wright of Huntsville, AL.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman Samuel and Myrtle Wright Brewster, and Everett Earl and Maxine Creel Cutshall; and his step-father, Rick Biddle. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 noon, Thursday, January 24, at the Iuka United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev.
Kerry Powell. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Dale Wadkins, Chuck Kay, Seth Grisham, Jody Dawson, Joey Cobb, and Sammy Reed.
Honorary pallbearers include the staff of Cutshall Funeral Home and the members of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka.
