Obituary for Jacob Tyson Long, Sr. Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measure back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in you own eye?
Or how can you say to your brother, “Let me removed the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5 NKJV On this day we celebrate the home going services for our Dad known to most as “Jake”. Jacob was born on May 28, 1941 to Rosie Lee Long and Ed Long, Sr. in Ashford, Alabama. After his birth the family resided for several years in Bainbridge, Georgia until relocating to Apopka, Florida in December 1956 where he attended Phyllis Wheatley School.
Nearly two years later, Jacob married Josie Lee Dunston on September 25, 1958. They were married for fifty-eight years. Jacob left school to join the workforce and became a laborer to support his family.
Several years later he worked his way into head foreman a position he held for many years until moving on to the construction industry. One of Jacob’s hobbies was playing cards with friends and family members. This was a stress reliever for him as they would sit and play for hours at a time.
Many who knew Jacob saw him as a hard man that was very outspoken, but those who were able to look beyond the outward appearance and got to know the heart of the man have a different story to tell. Later in life Jacob joined Pentecostal Overcoming Holiness Church #2 in Kissimmee, Florida under the leadership of Pastors Archie and Mamie Kelly. He was a faithful servant and member that always sacrificed and gave of himself to support the direction of the ministry.
After the death of Josie, his wife of 58 years, Jacob married Ira Brown in January 2017. Unfortunately, their time together was not long, but they created everlasting memories than can be cherished for many years to come. Jacob was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Josie Lee Long; father, Ed Long, Sr.; mother, Rosie Lee Long; daughter, Evelyn Josie Long; sisters, Katie Long Kindred, Alice Darlene Long and Mary Lois Long #1 (still born) and brother, James Edward Long (still born).
