Obituary for James M. Dye, Ed.D. James M. Dye, Ed.D. Jim Dye was born October 29th, 1940, in Lockhart, Texas. He was the youngest of four children born to Clyde C. and Jewell Dye. He was raised in Luling, Texas, where his father was a career employee with Humble Oil/Exxon.

Jim’s father was active in the community and served as a church Elder. Jewell Miles Dye, Jim’s mother was a homemaker and later had a career as a nurse aide and earlier a hospital dietician aide and cook. Jim received his B.S. and M.Ed.

degrees from Texas State University – San Marcos. He did post-graduate work at Texas Tech University in planning and received the Doctor of Education degree from the University of Houston in 1979. Jim married Barbara Johnson, a native of San Antonio, on June 10, 1961 at the Palm Heights Church of Christ where her father served as an Elder.

Jim and Barbara returned to San Antonio in 1968 when he joined the faculty at San Antonio College. He was a professor of architecture and engineering and later served in the Alamo College District as an administrator serving as a Provost, Vice Chancellor and President of Palo Alto College. Dr. Dye worked thirty-two years in the office of the Dean of Health Professions.

He served as a Deacon at MacArthur Park Church of Christ for 25 years, where he chaired the Building and Planning Committee. Later he served as an Elder for five years. Jim was ordained as a minister in 1968 and had part-time ministerial roles during most of his career which included serving as a Hospital Chaplain.

Jim and Barbara have three grown children, two sons who are both ministers and a daughter in financial management. The Dyes have nine grandchildren. A third career brought Dr. Dye to Oak Hills Church in February 2004 to serve as Facilities Manager.

In August 2004, he accepted additional responsibilities as Minister/Director of Operations and later was promoted to Senior Executive Minister of Administration. He served in this capacity until his retirement on March 31, 2011. Dr. Dye is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, son, Steven (Kristi) Dye of Edmond Oklahoma, son, Carl (Monica) Dye of Siloam Springs Arkansas, daughter, Rae-Anne Carlisle of Bulverde Texas, grandchildren, Jason Mulligan, Emily Dye-Troester (Collin), Cody Welch, Kaleb Dye, Rachel Dye, Micah Dye, Jamie Dye, James Carlisle, Kai Carlisle, nephew, Michael Alex, nieces, Susan Krozel, Kandee Jahns, Vicki Alex, and numerous other family, friends, and coworkers.

A Memorial Service will be held at NorthWest Church of Christ on Thursday, May 31st, 2018 at 6:30 PM. The church is located at 9681 W. Loop 1604 N., San Antonio, Texas 78254.
