Obituary for James Edwin Barnes James Edwin Barnes, age 90, of Avon, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at O’Neill Assisted Living in North Ridgeville. He was born in Elyria and had lived most of his life in North Ridgeville before moving to Avon. He attended St. Peter School and graduated from North Ridgeville High School.
James served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. He retired as a Captain from the North Ridgeville Fire Department in 1990 after 40 years of service and was past owner of Barnes Coal and Supply. He was a member of Holy Trinity in Avon and past parishioner of St. Peter Church in North Ridgeville.
He also belonged to St. Peter Holy Name Society, St. Peter Knights of St. John, St. Peter Federal Credit Union (for 32 years), North Ridgeville Charter Commission, Avon VFW, where he was a life member and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and traveling. He enjoyed helping others through his gift of donating 16 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Donna Meese of Clyde; step-sons, Dave (Marie) Forthofer of North Ridgeville, Tim (Maureen) Forthofer of Avon; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Rita Bauer; nephews, Tim (Carol) Barnes, Joe (Sandy) Barnes, Ron (Janet) Bauer, Kenny Barnes, Jerry (Barb) Barnes, Mike Bauer, Barry (Nancy) Fate, Dan Fate, Greg (Donna) Fate and Rick (Julie) Fate; many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Forthofer Barnes; sister, Ruth (Bernie) Fate; brothers, William (Aggie) Barnes, Richard Barnes; brother-in-law, Art Bauer; parents, William and Theresa Barnes; nieces, Sandy Hiller and Pat Sullinger. Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd.
, N. Ridgeville on Tuesday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. where a 9:30 a.m. prayer service will precede a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd. Rev. Bob Franco, Pastor, will be the celebrant.
