Obituary for James “Jim” Frederick Kurz James “Jim” Frederick Kurz, 86, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at Hermitage Nursing Home. He was born on March 22, 1932 in Daviess County to the late August Fred Kurz and Goldie Whelan Kurz. Jim, a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Bell South after 40 years, where he worked as a supervisor.

Jim was a Sargent of Mess Hall – Fort Bragg, a member of Our Lady of Lourdes, Knights of Columbus, he was a former President of the Telephone Company Union (AFL/CIO), was very active in the Telephone Pioneers and enjoyed fishing, barbecuing chicken, was an avid UK fan and a regular coffee drinker at CJ’s. Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers Joe, Frank, John and Tom Kurz. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Riney Kurz; his children: Greg (Jenny Rone) Kurz David (Angie) Kurz, both of Owensboro, Steve (Alicia) Kurz of Philpot, Debbie (David) Ward of Maceo and Sheri (Tim) Hogan of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren: Cody Nugent, Jonathon Barnett, Logan Kurz, Hunter Kurz, Brody Kurz, Nolan Kurz, Collin Kurz, Lily Kurz, Craig Kimmel, Danielle Brant, Christopher Ward, James Hogan and Thomas Hogan; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: Janet Fullerton of Evansville, Betsy Kamuf of Louisville, Shirley (Dan) Hagman of Hawesville, Judy Kurz of Indianapolis and Rose (Joe) Rousoff of Montana. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 24, 2018 at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Pat Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday at the church.
