James M. Raver, age 70, of Summit Station Ohio, passed away on February 13, 2019, after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. In 1968 he served with the 25th Infantry Division 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry where he lived in the field.

In 1969 he served with the 9th Infantry Division 4th Battalion 47th Infantry, 2nd River Raider Brigade, Mobile Riverine Force Spearheaders. He was awarded 2 Bronze Star medals with “V” device and Oak Leaf cluster; also, the Army Commendation Medal; Vietnam Service medal wit 3 Bronze Service Stars; Vietnam Civil Actions Medal with Oak Leaf; National Defense Service Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; Army Good Conduct Medal. Finished out his service in 1970 with the 2nd Battalion 41st Infantry Division 2nd Armed Division out of Ft Hood Texas as a Sergeant E5.

Known to all of his friends as RAVER. He loved hunting fishing and camping with friends and family, he also loved going on vacations with his daughters and road trips with his sisters. Jim was preceded in death by his son Ronald Michael Raver, grandsons Cameron and Jordan Raver, parents Donna Church and Calvin Raver, grandmother Sarah Merz, sister Sarah Ramsey.

Survived by his loving wife of 52 years BobbieJo, sons Jim (Mindy) Raver and Ben Raver, daughters Sheena Howard and BobbieJo (Gabriel) McCarty; grandchildren Charlie, Caleb Jacob, Sydney, Matthew, Brendan, Faith, Haley, Dylan; sisters Donna Marcum, Beverly Marcum, brother Steve (Chris) Bare, best friend Ronald Bower, and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Visitation will be 10:30 am until time of the funeral service at 1:30 pm Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the O. R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL 1346 S. High Street.
