James Moore Major III, age 62, passed away at his home on January 14, 2019, in Athens, Alabama. He is more commonly known as “Jim” to his many friends and “Jimmy” to his family. Jim was born on March 31, 1956, in Southside, Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Moore Major Jr. and Sara Ann Nicks Major. Jim was retired from Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant in Alabama where he worked for many years as a Security Guard. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

In his retirement, Jim spent endless hours recruiting girls to play basketball for the Alabama Elite AAU team and numerous community colleges. He was well-known to many for his interest in promoting girls’ basketball in his community and surrounding areas. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a host of cousins, many dear friends, and former players. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 2pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Drake Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Neptune-Smith Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 19th from 11am until service hour of 2pm.
