James P. Dirth, 88, of Burlington, died at 11:15 AM Saturday, June 23, 2018, at his home. Born March 26, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Lyman A.and Mabel Stewart Dirth. On June 7, 1951, he married Ruth Mae Russell in Burlington.

He worked as a mechanic for Wayne’s Mobile Service, then as a detailer with Edward Hockett and later retired from J.I. Case Company. James was a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed playing cards, working and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Mae Dirth of Burlington; two sons, Donald (Cathy) Dirth of Enumclaw, WA, and Mark Dirth of Burlington; one daughter, Teresa Dirth of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Larry Dirth of Burlington; two sisters, Sharon Hayes of Burlington, and Barbara Stone of Lebanon, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert J. Dirth; two sisters: Betty Schnodhorst and Shirley Augsberger; and two brothers: George and Gail Dirth.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League will conduct Military Rites at 7 PM. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.

There will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his great-grandchildren’s education.
