Obituary for Mr. James Rufus Gibbs James Rufus gibbs was born on February 28, 1946 to the late Sarah Marie Gibbs and departed this life on November 18, 2018. James attended Beaufort County Schools and was employed with Washington Square Mall for over thirty eight years before retirement. James enjoyed daily visits to King Chicken to get one of their daily lunch specials and its famous sweet potato pies.

James could often be seen outside of King Chicken playing a game of Checkers. James enjoyed keeping up with the news through reading the latest edition of the Jet Magazine, Washington Daily News, Daily Reflector and News Observer. James was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil Gibbs, John Henry Gibbs, Bobby Gibbs and George Gibbs.

James leaves to mourn his loving memories, Ex-wife, Joyce Gibbs of Washington, NC; four daughters, Cheryl Whitley (Linwood) of Washington, NC, Terry Brown of Chester, VA, Kimberly Gibbs of Washington, NC, Lisa Gibbs-Lee of Rocky Mt. , NC; one sister, Maude Keyes of Washington, NC; five grandchildren, Jewel Brown-Thomas (Earl), Linwood Whitley, Jr., Consuela Hall, Reagan Lee, Chris Lee; five great grandchildren, Ahmir Whitley, Jamiere Horton, Amari Hall, Londyn Thomas, Soraya Hall and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.
