James V. Payton, Sr., 67, of Mooresville, passed away April 3, 2018 while vacationing in Orange City, Florida. Jim was born October 9, 1950 in Martinsville to the late Vernon C. and Gladys Irene (Wilson) Payton. In 1970, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Jessie Louise (Rash) Payton and she survives.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A man of many talents, he owned and operated his own video store, UltraX Video in Indianapolis… Read More » for 32 years; he also operated his own concrete finishing business for many years, Payton & Son Concrete, and was professional gambler. Jim was a faithful member of West Newton Friends Church, American Legion Post #252 in Greenwood, and West Newton Lodge #707 F.&A.M. Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Coy Payton and his sister, Clarene Payton.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Louise; two sons, Jakie (Christine) Payton of Plainfield, and James V. Payton, Jr. of Mooresville; his siblings, David (Patty) Payton of Logansport, John (Crystal) Payton of Martinsville, Eva Joel (Terry) Baker of Glasgow, KY, Lisa (Donny) Bickley of Cloverdale, and Juanita “Pete” Payton of Camby; three grandchildren, Cody, Addy, and Bailey Payton; and two great grandchildren, Chance Hoffman, and Trace James Payton. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Jim Payton from Noon until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at the West Newton Worship and Youth Center, 7860 S. Mooresville Rd. , Camby, IN 46113 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the worship center.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday also at the worship center. Burial will follow at West Newton Cemetery. Final care and arrangements are entrusted to the Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville.
