James W. “Jim” Derr, 90, of Moberly, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Moberly Nursing and Rehab. He was born April 10, 1928 in Macon County, MO to Mack and Verna (Wendle) Derr. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He received an honorable discharge in 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Prior to retirement Jim worked as a dispatcher for Norfolk and Western Railroad. Jim married the love of his life, Donna Holman on December 25, 1955 in Moberly and she preceded him in death on September 14, 2014.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Robert and infant John Paul Derr and a sister, Dubby Muir. Survivors include his children, Deborah Ann Crapisi and her husband Jack of Independence, MO and Curtis Derr of Moberly, two grandchildren, Courtney Sommer and Corey Switzer, two great- grandchildren, Addisyn and Sarah Switzer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was an avid fan of Cardinals baseball, Mizzou, and the MACC Greyhounds.

He was a member of the Moberly School Board for many years, as well as, the MACC Trustee Board and the Shelter Workshop Board. Jim volunteered for many years in many compacities for the MACC Greyhound teams. He loved to fish, golf and spend time with his family.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at the visitation, which will be, Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Services honoring and celebrating Jim’s life will follow at 12:00 p.m. Committal prayers, Military Honors and burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
