KIRKEIDE March 08, 1967 – April 20, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Jim Kirkeide, 52, Fessenden, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019, while fishing on Devils Lake. James Walter Kirkeide, son of LeVon and Patricia (Knote) Kirkeide, was born March 8, 1967 at Harvey, ND. He was raised in Fessenden and graduated from Fessenden High School in 1985.

After graduation he attended Bismarck State College and North Dakota State University where he graduated in 1992 with a degree in Agriculture. His passion from a very young age was farming and he began farming in the Fessenden area while he was in high school. In addition to farming, he owned and operated Kirkeide’s Northland Bean & Seed Company.

With what started as an idea on a bar napkin, he was able to expand his businesses and relationships to many areas of the world. Jim loved his family and he spread his wings wide and had room for many friends. He enjoyed connecting with his many friends and he loved providing experiences for young and old.

It could be a ride in the combine, a helicopter or driving a semi-truck. Jim was an avid fisherman, boater and NDSU Bison fan and he enjoyed providing an opportunity for his friends and family to have those experiences as well. He was a generous supporter of his community, the Wells County Fair,Wells County 4-H, North Dakota 4-H Foundation, FFA, and NDSU Team Makers.

He was a member of the associations for North Central Bean Dealers, Rocky Mountain Bean Dealers, and North Dakota Dry Edible Bean and Seed and a member of Fessenden Civic and Commerce. He is survived by his son and best friend, Jesse Johnson; siblings: Tom (Kim) Kirkeide of Baker, Paul (Delise) Kirkeide of Fessenden, Catherine (Craig) Larson of Little Canada, MN and Karen (Keith) Schindler of Bismarck. He was ‘Uncle Jim’ to Tyler and Travis (Brooke) Kirkeide, Ryan and Carter Larson, Kelly and Tori Schindler and Nick Prins.

Jim is also survived by his partner of 24 years, Misty Thorenson and her children, Ashley, John and Jesse. Jim had a tender and giving heart and will be missed by his loving family, his employees, his community and his friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, LeVon and Pat and his niece Katie (Nick) Schindler Prins.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. Funeral: Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 10:30 at the Fessenden School Auditorium. Burial: Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden.
