Janelle Clark Sheehan, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Rob Oates officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at the church preceding the services from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Janelle had a special place in her heart for the children at the Talladega Children’s Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to PO Drawer 577 Talladega, Alabama 35161.

Born on July 21, 1927, she was the daughter of John Oscar and Janie May Acree Clark. Janelle spent her life loving and serving others. Her faith was her most enduring characteristic.

She served as a Sunday school teacher, president of the Women of the Church, Women’s Circle leader, and Historian for many years. Until her death, she was the longest living member of First Presbyterian Church, having been a member for 83 years. Mrs. Sheehan enjoyed many sports and played softball, tennis, and bowling.

Her passion for sports began as a young girl when her father taught her how to keep detailed score books for the semi-pro teams the Dothan Generals and the Dothan Browns. This earned her the title of The Dothan Eagle Sportscaster of the Year in 1939. Her passion for sports continued for decades, and she was grateful for the opportunity to keep books for her sons’ teams in the recreation leagues and the church softball leagues.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edwin Mack Sheehan; her children, Jan (Brooks) Cavell, Mark (Kathy) Sheehan, Clark (Janet) Sheehan; grandchildren, Brandon (Jennifer) Cavell, Steven (Lauren) Dooling, Courtney Cavell Quinn, Rebecca (Tim) Caine, and Luke (Anna) Sheehan; great grandchildren, JJ Quinn, Kate Cavell, and Mackenzie Dooling; sister in law, Pat and Francis Rice; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Buford Acree Clark, Major Hayes Clark, and Oscar Green Clark; and one grandson, Jason Grady Dooling. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Cavell, Steven Dooling, Luke Sheehan, Tim Caine, Dennis Pompa, Kenny Whatley, Ron Watson, and Gary Bass.
