Age 83, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, January 4, 2018 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Janet was born March 13, 1935 in Wheelersburg to Roy and Ester (Ferrell) Lewis. She was a 1953 graduate of Wheelersburg High School.

She worked as a receptionist at an optometrist’s office in New Boston. Janet was a Kentucky Colonel, she enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and woodworking. Janet is survived by her husband, Donald Nelson; a son, Paul Whitt of Columbus; a daughter, Jayne Whitt of Sciotoville; a stepson, David (Ann) Nelson of Oak Hill; a step-daughter, Susan (Dan) Brown of South Shore, KY; one grandson, Ian Whitt; five step-grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Finley, Chris Hutchinson, Maria (Henry) Bartels, Michael (Kelli) Nelson, Mark (Kendall) Nelson; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a good friend, Traci Vogelsong-Lewis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several sisters. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2018, at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville. Friends may call Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
