Janet Louise Justice 80 of Madison, WV passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019 after a long illness. Janet was born January 15, 1938 in Beckley WV and was preceded in death by her father and hero Huley Browning and her mother Julia Staley Browning. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Justice and her children, Mark (Crystal) Justice of Danville, John Justice of Falling Waters, and Mary Beth (John) Thaxton of Charleston, her grandchildren, Wes (Sara) Justice of Big Chimney, Jay (Kayla) Justice of Pooler, GA, and Joannah Justice of Derwood, MD; her brother; Jim (Libby) Browning of San Antonio, Texas.

She was a 1956 graduate of Scott High School where she was active in the band and was a majorette. She attended Marshall University and graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1973. She was a former teacher for Boone County Schools.

Janet spent several years as a first grade teacher at Wharton Elementry. She would spend the last eleven years of her teaching of her teaching career at Van High School as a social studies teacher. She loved seeing her students succeed after graduation, but she was especially proud of those who lost their way in life and found their way back on the right path.

Janet was happily married to Jimmy for 58 years. She loved the time they spent together and she loved their home. She loved the children they brought into the world together and left them with a lifetime of memories.

She also loved the students whose lives she help to shape while they were in her classroom. After retirement she poured all of that love into the lives of her grandchildren. Janet was a history buff and an avid reader.

She loved music and spent most of her life playing the piano, including several years as the pianist for Wharton Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she and Jimmy attended Madison Baptist Church. The best family memories were spent cheering on the Mountaineers at Milan Puskar Stadium.

She passed her love of sports on to her children and grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Pastor Jim Butcher officiating.
