Brown departed this life at 10:25 a.m. on December 27, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Janie was born on May 14, 1949, to the late James B. Haskins Sr. and Etta M. Stratton Haskins of Lynchburg, Va. In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond N. Brown; two sisters, Joyce Ware and Peggy Jones (Robert); and one brother, James B. Haskins Jr. Janie joined Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Gospel Choir.

She was employed by Generation Solutions. Janie is survived by four daughters, Dietres D. Haskins, Shamane M. Day (Davin) of Amherst, Va. , Jennifer A. Fleming and April L. Wright, of Mount Airy, N.C.; sisters, Norma Gilbert (Lewis), Barbara Harris and Eldridge Brown, all of Lynchburg, VA.

; brothers, Bobby J. Stratton, Sr. (Mary) of Lynchburg, Va. , Leon J. Haskins of Fort Washington, Md. , and Houston Haskins (Yolanda) of Evington, Va.

; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Monday, December 31, 2018, from 6 until 7 p.m. at Community Funeral Home and other times at the residence. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Interment will be held at the Megginson Family Cemetery. Her remains will be open to the public one hour prior to the service at the church. Family and friends will assemble at the church.
