Obituary for Janis “Jan” Smith Janis Smith, 71 passed away June 18, 2018 surrounded by family. Jan was born in Detroit Michigan. Following high school, she graduated from Michigan State University.

On March 7, 1987 she married her husband, Robert E. Smith in Fort Pierce, Florida. Jan was a buyer for Jacobsen’s stores. During her employment she traveled all over the world.

She retired as property manager for Fraga Properties in Sabal Palm Shopping Center. Jan had many hobbies including, traveling with gnome, Jerome, sewing, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, and genealogy. Jan was an emeritus member of the Pilot Club of Fort Pierce.

She served her club as Director, Secretary, Treasurer, President – Elect, President and many appointed positions. Jan served the Florida District of Pilot International as the 2014 – 2015 Conference and Planning Co-Chair and the 2015 – 2016 South Regional Lt. Governor.

She was instrumental in establishing the relationship between the Pilot Club of Fort Pierce and Alzheimer’s Community Care. Jan never said no when asked to do something for Pilot. With the last year Jan became a founding member of the St. Lucie County Memory Circle of Alzheimer’s Community Care.

Jan is survived by her husband of 31 years, Robert E. Smith. Father, Robert Roselle, sister Nancy Lutz (Terry), brother James (Chris), sister Cindy Capobres (Dave), son Jeff Smith (Holly), daughter Angela Van Nostrand (David), grandchildren Brittany Baybeck, TJ Bomba, Riley Smith, Gabriel and Lucas Van Nostrand and many nieces and nephew. Jan was predeceased by her mother Beverly Roselle.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Community Care, 800 Northpoint Parkway Suite 101-B, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or Pilot Scholarship House Foundation, Barbara McKenzie, Treasurer, 911 Skylark Drive, Fort Pierce, FL 34982. Arrangements in Michigan will be announced at a later date. A Celebration of Jan’s life will be held at the Fort Pierce Elks Lodge on June 30, 2018 at 11 am.
