Obituary for Jay C. Sands A. Jay C. Sands of Villanova, PA died peacefully at home on June 5, 2018. He was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on December 27, 1927. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Sands and is survived by his wife, Frances Tenney Sands, his daughter, Suzette Sands Custer, five grandsons: Joseph, James, and Jonathan Sands, Christopher and David Custer, four great grandsons Connor and Jackson Sands, Oliver Custer and Xavier Sands, two great granddaughters Tierney Sands and Vail Custer and two stepdaughters.

Lea Tenney Miller and Beth Tenney He was predeceased by his wife Frances McDonald Sands in 1989, his son Harl McDonald Sands in 1997, his sister Suzette Sands Wandelt, and his brother Joseph (Sandy) Evans Sands, III. Jay graduated from Haverford School ’45 and University of Pennsylvania ’48. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He went to work at Richard Stockton Gift Shop in 1943 and purchased the business in 1959 and operated it until retiring in 2004. Jay had a very dedicated and loyal following. He was a Past President of the Bryn Mawr Business Association and a Board Member for many years.

After retirement he volunteered at Baker Industries. He was a long time member of the Merion Cricket Club. A Memorial Service will be held Monday June 11th at 11:00 am in Church of the Redeemer, 230 Pennswood Rd.
