WHARTON – Jean passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 92 years young. Jean was born on November 28, 1926, in Wharton at Mrs. Carpenter’s Maternity Home.

She was raised in Mine Hill and was a graduate of Dover High School, class of 1944 and All Souls Hospital, Morristown in 1947. Jean was a Registered Nurse working for Dr. L. P. Stringer of Dover then at Lock Joint Pipe in Wharton, as the plant nurse for 29 years. She was a member of First Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dover for over 60 years and a member of the Wharton Senior Citizens and a former Lioness in Beverly Hills, Florida.

Her favorite passions included being an avid reader and being very lucky at weekly BINGO. When she became visually challenged, audio books were a of enjoyment. Also, she kept and played the same BINGO boards each week, which she had committed all the numbers to memory.

Many relatives and friends were glad recipients of the countless afghans she would crochet throughout the years. She had an enormous love for family and the family history. She is survived by her devoted son, Richard C. Palmer of Mine Hill; her stepchildren, Edward Evans and wife Barbara of Troy, NY; David H. Evans and wife Tammy of Hackettstown as well as seven step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren plus many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents Claude and Ellen (Doyle) Hoagland; sister, Bette Morgan; and husband Edward of 41 years. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8PM on Monday, January 28. 2019 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A funeral service will be held 10AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover. In lieu of flowers donations in Jean’s memory, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
