Jean’s Obituary Jean Christensen, age 88, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jean Baxter was born on October 28, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Rev. Dr. Nelson I. and Marjorie (Fuggle) Baxter. During childhood, she lived in several states and cities throughout the Midwest where her father had pastorate in Congregational-UCC Churches.

She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA. Jean attended Yankton College and graduated from Morningside College with her Bachelor of Art’s Degree in June 1952. She worked at Southern State Teacher College in Springfield, SD, secretary of the Congregational Church from 1955-1959 and SD Council of Churches from 1956-1959.

Jean’s most rewarding work came as a Special Education/Title Aide from 1970-1991 for Huron Public Schools. Jean married Ron Christensen on July 6, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa. Jean was a member of First Congregational Church and participated in choir for many years.

In their free time, Jean and Ron enjoyed taking many trips around the USA and Canada in their camper. Jean was very dedicated to her family, never missing an activity of her children and grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron in February 2019, and four infant sons.

Jean is survived by her three children, Pam (Terry) Miedema of Huron, Daniel (Julie) Christensen of Madison WI, and Nancy (Alvin) Haugen of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Anne (Ron) Zemlicka-Hayes, Justin (Alisha) Miedema, Cassandra (Dan) Peck, Miranda Haugen, and Brianna Haugen; Two great-grandchildren, Emma Zemlicka-Hayes and Jameson Miedema and her sister Winifred Mading of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jean and Ron are now walking together hand in hand for eternity!
