Jenni Mae (Martin) Kingbird, 48 years young, of Red Lake, Minnesota began her journey to the spirit world on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Jenni was born on June 15, 1970 in Minneapolis, MN to Lawrence and Ruth (Johnson) Martin. Jenni was a very strong but kind hearted woman with a heart of gold.

She was always willing to help anyone in need. Jenni was raised in Ponsford, MN for most of her life. She attended the Wahpeton Indian Boarding School for a short period of time, before returning home to care for her father who was ill.

Jenni graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1990. After high school, she worked various jobs at both the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen and for the WE Fest Festival in Detroit Lakes. In 2005, Jenni moved to Red Lake.

A short time later, she met the love of her life Charles Kingbird, Sr. and in 2009 they were married. Jenni fought a lot of battles in her life, especially with her health but always came through it. Jenni was a proud mother of five boys and loved spending time with them and her husband Chuck.

She was raising and caring for her grandson Brendan Cloud, who was the light of her life. Jenni enjoyed playing dice, 10,000, Yahtzee and Trouble. One of her and Chuck’s favorite things to do was going to country concerts, they went to many over the years.

Jenni was loved dearly by everyone and will forever be missed. Family that Jenni is reunited with are her parents; Lawrence and Ruth Martin, sister; Donna Martin, nephew Rodney Wilson, grandparents; George and Saraphine Martin, Bessie Smith Martin and Marcel and Jane Johnson, sister in law; Karen Kingbird and brother in law; Milton Kingbird. Those she leaves behind are her husband; Charles “Chuck” Kingbird, Sr. of Red Lake, sons; Donovan, Kyle and Jeremiah Basswood all of Red Lake, Zachary “Jimbo” and Alexander Basswood both of Ponsford, special grandson Brendan Cloud, sister; LaRayne “Kim” (Lloyd) Spears of Red Lake, brothers and sisters in law; Charlene, Myron Jr. and Mitchell Kingbird, four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

An overnight wake for Jenni will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26th and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Thursday, December 27th all being held at the Pine Point Community Center in Ponsford, MN. Mike Swan will be her Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Jenni will be John Bruguier, Clarence Clark, James Kettle, Sharon Basswood, Shawnee Basswood and Derrick Oliver.

Her honorary pallbearers are Sherilyn Spears, Jolene Barrett, Muriel Stately and Charlene Kingbird. Interment will be in the Breck Memorial Episcopal Cemetery at Ponsford, MN following her services. Jenni’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.
