OBITUARY Jerry Letcher Dobbs October 11, 1933 – January 12, 2019 Joan Rose Alma McDonnell Dobbs December 25,1934 to January 8, 2019 and Jerry Letcher Dobbs October 11,1933 to January 12, 2019 Following 65 years of marriage, Joan Rose Alma Mc Donnell Dobbs, 84, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Her husband, Jerry Letcher Dobbs, 85, followed her by passing away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Edgewood Senior Living Center in Soda Springs, Idaho. Jerry was born October 11,1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to Minnie Lou (Chambless) and Samuel Ralph Dobbs.

Joan was born on December 25, 1934 in Wallace, Idaho to Magdalene (Webb) and Vincent Mc Donnell. Joan and Jerry met on a blind date in Long Beach, California and were married on June 19, 1953. They had two daughters, Kimberley (Dobbs) Wyman of Lacey, Washington and Michele (Dobbs) John of Jacksonville, Florida.

Joan worked as a bookkeeper and enjoyed sewing and gardening in her spare time. Jerry worked as a car salesman and an elevator shop worker. He enjoyed taking the family camping and hunting, but his favorite pastime was fishing.

Joan and Jerry were also involved in their daughters’ activities, including sports and cheerleading teams, serving as adult volunteers, and attending practices and games. They moved from California to Pinedale, Wyoming where Joan opened a crafts store and Jerry found his dream job working for the U.S. Forest Service. Over time, she began making quilts and he crafted furniture to display them.

In 2008, they retired and moved to Soda Springs, Idaho. Joan enjoyed making quilts and building friendships with her beloved quilt guild members. Jerry enjoyed creating furniture in his woodshop and fishing as often as possible.

They are survived by their two daughters, sons-in-law John Wyman and Alan P. John, four grandchildren, Alan M. John, Lauren John, Renée Wyman and Jordan Wyman, and one great-granddaughter, Layla John. The family will have a memorial service for Joan and Jerry in Wallace, Idaho in the spring. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home.
