Jessie (Cox) Crowther, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Maplewood at Chardon Senior Living Community in Chardon, OH. Jessie was the daughter of Dewey and Laura Cox and was born in Catlettsburg, KY on April 19, 1925. As a young girl, Jessie’s family moved to Lancaster, Ohio where she grew up.

After finishing school, Jessie pursued a profession as a beautician. It was in Cosmetology School in Columbus where she met Rosemary Myers of North Kingsville who would become her life-long friend and make the introduction to her future husband, Ted. Jessie and Ted were married on the 28th of November,1948.

They settled in Ted’s home town of North Kingsville and had four children; Cynthia, Patricia, Dianna, and Charles. Jessie immediately fell in love with northeastern Ohio and embraced her new home, family and community in North Kingsville and surrounding area. She was an active participant in the American Legion Neal Post 743 and served as the President of the Women’s Auxiliary.

She also volunteered for the Red Cross at Conneaut’s Brown Memorial hospital and was Deaconess and an active member in the East Side Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula and also the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church. Jessie loved entertaining family and friends, had a passion for gardening and especially enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Ted. Surviving her is her sister Helen Adams, her daughter’s Cindy and Patty, son Chuck, seven grandchildren, Jennifer (William) Spruill, Richard Howe, Jason (Catherine) Gintert, Melissa Gintert, Bethany (Oliver) Giles, Michael Crowther, and Ryan Crowther, seven great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, her daughter Dianna, her brothers, Edward, Ishmael, and Charles and her sister Thelma. Visitation will be held Friday, December 14th, from 4:00 – 6:00PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors. , 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

There will be a Memorial Church Service at the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Drive in Ashtabula, on Saturday, December 15th, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Michelle Bartel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 6546 Church St., N. Kingsville, OH 44048 or the East Side Presbyterian Church (above address).
