Jim Kapaun, age 88, of West Fargo, ND, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND. James Joseph Kapaun was born December 24, 1929, at Buffalo, ND, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Anderson) Kapaun. He was raised by his grandparents at Casselton, where he grew up and attended school.

Jim entered the US Army in August of 1951. On November 4, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Marvel Johnson at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo. Following his Honorable Discharge in July 1953, they lived at West Fargo.

Jim worked for Northwestern Bell for 36 years, retiring in 2003 at the age of 54. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Jim enjoyed attending many of his grandchildren’s sports activities, while they were in school and as adults!

He was a member of VFW Post #7564, West Fargo. Jim is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Fred) Rodriguez, and Mary Kapaun, both of West Fargo, ND; two grandsons: Aliceo and Andrew Rodriguez; three granddaughters: Jessica Kapaun , Jena Kapaun and Jane (fiancée Donald Brooks) Kapaun; 7 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marvel, his son Douglas, and a grandson Jeremiah.

Funeral: 11AM Wednesday, May 9, 2018, in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with Visitation one hour prior to his service.
