Mrs. Jimmie Carolyn Ivey Garrettson, 85, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Piedmont Northside Hospital in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EST Friday, December 14, 2018 at Concord Baptist Church in Salem with Rev. Bud Passmore officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm EST prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Garrettson was born July 15, 1933 in Robinson County, NC to the late Floyd C. Ivey and Lillian Harrington Ivey.

She was retired as a registered nurse for Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD with 40 years of committed service. She graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland with BS in Nursing. She was a former member of the Smiths Station Ruritan Club and Smiths Station Democratic Club.

Mrs. Garrettson was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Garrettson, three children, Dorothy Hamer, Susan Greer, and Richard Rowland, sisters; Betty Ford, and Margie Stickell, and one brother, Jerry Ivey. She is survived by one daughter, Velda Sturdivant of Salem, AL, and one son, Stephen R. “Steve: Rowland and wife Cynthia of Smiths Station, AL; (20) grandchildren, (29) great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Maintenance Fund at Concord Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Jimmie Garrettson.
