Obituary for Jo Anne Brennan Jo Anne Brennan, age 90, a resident at the Lynnmoore in Ft. Pierce, FL, died in her sleep Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.
A longtime resident in Scottsbluff, NE, she served as a social worker and, wife and mother of 10 children. She was born Jan. 21, 1928 in Denver, CO, to Gordon and Wilma Carpenter, and as a child moved with her family to Scottsbluff, NE where her father started an office supply business.
She graduated from Scottsbluff High School and from Scottsbluff Junior College (Nebraska Western Community College) and then attended Stanford University. Later in life, she completed her education with a bachelor’s degree in social work at Chadron State College. On Feb.
26, 1949 she married William J. Brennan, who she met while she worked as a radio personality at KOLT radio station in Scottsbluff. Her husband worked as a news reporter in radio and television and later became manager of KSTF in Scottsbluff. In 1985 they moved to Douglas, Wyo.
, and in 1990, upon retirement, they moved to Ft. Pierce, FL and were longtime residents at High Point. He preceded her in death on Nov.
9, 2005. They also were longtime members of St. Agnes church in Scottsbluff and St. Mark’s in Ft. Pierce.
In Scottsbluff, the couple owned an ice-cream store that she managed for several years. Later she worked at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Extension office while she completed her college education and then worked as a Scotts Bluff County social worker. In Douglas she worked as a social worker at a nursing home.
Jo was admired for her giving spirit, excellent sense of humor, optimistic view of life and kindness toward all. She remained mild-mannered in her work but worked relentlessly and tirelessly to provide comfort and justice to others. Her survivors include six sons, Bill and Deborah (Heeg) of Ft.
Pierce; Sean and Coleen (Nielsen) of Lincoln, NE; Tom and Diana (Bauer) of Denver, CO; Ed and Friz (Diaz) of Sacramento, CA, Tim of Ft. Pierce and Bob of Lincoln; two daughters, Peg and Scott (Jones) of Lincoln and Jennifer of Denver, CO; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She and her husband also cared for and formally adopted Kay Gerd (Bob) of Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila, and a son Michael; her parents, her sisters Helen and Jean, and brother, Alfred. Memorials are suggested to Western Nebraska Community College building fund or to St. Agnes School. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Fort Pierce.
