OBITUARY Jo “Jody” Ann Boteler Montgomery November 8, 1934 – January 20, 2019 Jo Ann Boteler Montgomery (Jody) was born on November 8, 1934 to Melvin and Nora Ownby. Jody grew up with her older sister, Reba Lubke, on the east side of Fort Worth, TX where she graduated from Poly High School. Jody was elected numerous times to serve as a student body officer at Poly High and represented the school in many honorary ways.
After high school, Jody attended Texas Wesleyan College where she worked towards her business degree. After two years of higher education, she met Jim Boteler and soon married. Their marriage blessed them with two children, Kim and Bret.
While Jim worked at General Dynamics and continued his education, Jody focused on the children and became a nurturing mother. During their free time, they took Kim and Bret on adventurous vacations to places such as Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole Wyoming, Big Shell/Little Shell National Seashore, NASA Space Shuttle launches, Yosemite National Park and many other monumental places. Jody enjoyed arts, crafts, sewing and baking in her spare time.
She became a talented painter and decorated their house with many of her finished pieces. She enjoyed collecting glassware that she adorned her china cabinets with. Jody’s professional career consisted of an office administrator (where she was awarded Secretary of the Year in 1955), a Campfire Girl Leader for five years and as a beautician instructor for ten years.
After Kim and Bret were grown, Jim and Jody continued to travel together and eventually spent vacations in every state within the United States. Soon after traveling to their final state, Alaska, Jim lost a long battle to bone marrow cancer and passed away in 2001 after being married for 47 years. Jody later married Glen David Montgomery.
While married, they continued to travel to some of their favorite places. Their ten-year marriage ended after Glen passed away in 2014. In the later years of their marriage Jody started experiencing medical conditions related to Dementia but was finally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
She fought the disease with amazing strength and courage but was finally admitted to a full care facility in 2012. She spent the last seven years of her life battling the disease. After a long, hard fight she went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2019.
She was comforted by the presence of her children, friends and family in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider making a donation to Alzheimer’s Disease Research at the following website: support. brightfocus.org/Default.
