Obituary for Joan Collett Joan Collett, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m Wednesday afternoon.

A private interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and for the United Presbyterian Home to further Dementia training. Online condolences may be sent for Joan’s family through the web at www.

jonesfh.com Betty Joan was born October 14, 1931, in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of John and Catherine (Duncan) Carey. She graduated from Washington High School. Betty was united in marriage to John Collett on April 12, 1952, in Washington, Iowa.

Joan was a spiral operator for McCleery Cummings in Washington. After retiring from McCleery Cummings, she worked part time at the Washington Evening Journal and at Hy-Vee in Washington. Joan was known for her homemade pies, sugar cookies and her wonderful apple dumplings.

She is survived by her husband, John Collett of Washington, IA; daughter, Peggy Grim and husband John of Johnston, IA; daughter, Karen Redlinger and husband Joe of Washington, IA; daughter, Christine Koelliker of Wapappello, MO; daughter, Laura Walsh and husband Tony of Washington, IA; son, John Wayne Collett and wife Bev of Grandview, IA; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Jon Carey and wife Connie of Washington, IA; brother, Jimmy Carey of Washington, IA; and sister, Joyce Nash and husband Brian of Washington, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sisters: Darlene Jaspering, Alice Dawson, Shirley York, Mary Sheets and Donna Wagenknecht; and 2 brothers: Richard Carey and Dean Carey.
