Obituary for Joan Lesniewski Camardo Joan Lesniewski Camardo, 99, of Columbia, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Born in Syracuse, NY on November 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Lesniewski and Helen Dziekonski (Walter). Joan graduated from the University of Illinois in 1943 and was a Certified Speech Pathologist.

She worked for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Monroe County, NY for 30 years. After her retirement, she traveled extensively and spent two years in Rio de Janiero teaching at the American School. While she was in Rochester and again once she moved to Columbia, she tutored adults at the Literacy Council until she was 95.

She had a passion for furthering women’s education and joined P.E.O (Philanthropic Education Organization) in 2002. Survivors include her brother, Richard Duncan; a son, Paul R. Camardo; daughters, Valerie Camardo-Krupp and Amy Camardo-Andersen; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mikolajczyk, Richard Camardo, Johanna Krupp, Eric Andersen, and Carrie Andersen; seven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter P. Camardo; and brothers, Robert Duncan and Ronald Dziekonski.

The service for Mrs. Camardo will be held at a later date to be announced in Columbia, SC. Entombment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Rochester, NY in early 2019. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
