OBITUARY Joan Patrice Natale July 26, 1937 – November 18, 2018 Joan Patrice (Barry) Natale, 81 years old, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2018 at home in St. Augustine, Florida, where she lived with her daughter Lisa Amato and her family. Joan was born on July 26, 1937 in Winchester, MA to Judge William Redmond and Catherine Barry. Her family moved to Springfield, MA where Joan attended Springfield Public schools.
After graduating from Classical High School, Joan attended and graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing. It is while Joan worked as an operating room nurse where she met her future husband and love of her life, Agostino Natale, MD. Joan and Agostino were married for 37 years and raised five children together.
They travelled to many places, especially Italy. During those years, Joan filled their home with laughter and love and not the least, the smells of amazing home cooked Italian meals! Joan was an amazing cook and spent many hours preparing meals for her family and friends.
Summer weekends at their beach house in Giants Neck Beach in East Lyme, CT meant countless culinary delights, lovingly prepared by Joan. Many wonderful memories were created here, and it was where Joan decided to live full time after Agostino passed away in 1995. Joan’s years at Giant’s Neck Beach were rarely spent alone.
Her house was filled with children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, knitter and crossword puzzle consumer. Her speed with the ipad was unrivaled and she leaves behind many disappointed and underchallenged “Word with Friends” participants.
When the cold winters up north became unbearable, Joan moved to St. Augustine with her daughter Lisa and her family. Joan is going to be missed for her wit, her laughter and her beautiful smile. Joan was preceded in death by her sister Charlotte (Barry) Winkler and is survived by her brother WIlliam (Brian) Barry and his wife Joan of Pittsfield, MA and several nieces and nephews.
Joan leaves daughter Rosanne and her husband Robert O’Hara of Simsbury, CT, daughter Maria Lisa and her husband Neal Amato of St. Augustine,FL, son Joseph Michael Natale of South Windsor, CT, daughter Joanne and her husband Richard Gilland Jr. of Thomaston, CT, and son John Natale and his wife Kim of Old Saybrook, CT. Joan was “Nana” to twelve grandchildren: John O’Hara and his wife Julia, Kathleen and Elizabeth O’Hara, Livio and Chiara Amato, Mia and Olivia Natale, Richard, Allie and Annie Gilland, and Isabella and Gus Natale. Services will be private.
The family is grateful to her health care providers. .
