Joan Rita Smigielski November 21, 1929 – March 05, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Joan Rita Smigielski, 89, formerly of Venice, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in Pampa, Texas. Joan was born in Jackson, Michigan on November 21, 1929 to Walter J. and Josephine M. Barkey. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Johns Catholic High School in Jackson, Michigan.

She married Mack Smigielski on September 8, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1988. She moved to Venice, Florida in 2000 and resided there until January, 2019 when she made the move to Pampa, Texas.

During her lifetime Joan enjoyed going to dance and dinner club functions with her husband Mack, reading mysteries and lawyer books, playing bridge, going to the beach, shopping, collecting cat figurines and country western music. She was an animal lover and especially loved playing with the various cats she owned throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mack Smigielski in 1988; and son, Robert Smigielski in 2015.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Gordon and husband Ken of Litchfield Michigan, Patricia Denney and husband Peter of Pampa, Texas, Diane Schilling and husband Eric of Venice Florida; a son, Richard Smigielski and wife Janet of Scottsdale Arizona; a brother, Walter Barkey of Venice, Florida; seven grandchildren, Glen Emrick, Brian Denney, Lauren Miller, Amanda Zimmerman, Michael Zimmerman, Ryan Smigielski, and Anne Spanski; and 14 great grandchildren. Joan will be missed by her family and numerous friends.
