OBITUARY Joan Scudder Stevens June 10, 1930 – November 8, 2018 Joan Scudder Stevens was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on November 8, 2018 at the age of 88 years. In her final days, she was surrounded by her adoring husband and three children. She passed away at home in Newport Beach, California, after struggling for nine years from the debilitating effects of a stroke.

During that time she was passionately cared for by her husband, Phil, and her daughter, Sherri. Joan was born on June 10, 1930, and was the only child of Alan and Florence Scudder. She grew up in Inglewood, California, and attended Dorsey High School and then UCLA.

While attending UCLA she met the love of her life, Phil Stevens, and within months they were married. Joan and Phil were married sweethearts for 66 years and blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Joan was strong in her Christian faith and completely devoted to her husband and children.

Her family was her life. She was dedicated, protective, nurturing, loving, kind, loyal, hardworking, and fun. She always gave of her heart, energy, and time.

She also shared her love with her extended family and dear friends. Once the children were out of the house, Joan became a talented artist and a compassionate volunteer with the Assistance League of Newport Beach. She also played golf and enjoyed being a travel companion for Phil as they traveled around the world.

Joan is survived by her husband Phil Stevens; children Greg Stevens and his wife Ivy, Kim Carpenter and her husband Blake, and Sherri Stevens; grandchildren Rosalie Yeager and her husband Dave, Jackson Stevens, Kerry Carpenter and his wife Danyelle, Lila Noffsinger and her husband Ken, and Chris Carpenter and his wife Natalie; and great- grandchildren Tatum and Hayes Yeager. A funeral service in memory of Joan will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at the Pacific View Memorial Park at 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, CA 92625. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joan to the Open Medicine Foundation, 29302 Laro Drive, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, in support of research for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
