Joan Louise Widman Boswell, age 81, resident of Somerville and wife of Bill Boswell, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, May 29, 2018 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville. Funeral Services will be at 2 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.

A visitation for Mrs. Boswell will be from 12 to 2 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Mrs. Boswell was born December 22, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of John Hendrix Widman and Louise Dibrell Pease Widman. She was a graduate of Hutchison High School in 1954 and received her BS in Medical Technology, her BA in Natural Science and her ASCP certification for Medical Technology at the University of Oklahoma where she was also in the Tri-Delta Sorority.

She was married June 3, 1967 to William Riley “Bill” Boswell and was a member of First Baptist Church in Somerville. Mrs. Boswell started the Medical Transcription Program at Southwest Tennessee Community College and was also the instructor. She was awarded the National Educator of the Year Award in 2001.

Mrs. Boswell is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Bill Boswell of Somerville, TN; three sons, Michael Drake (Alys) of Germantown, TN, John Boswell (Laura) of Hernando, MS, Stephen Boswell (Andrea) of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Margaret Ann Townsend of Memphis, TN; and two granddaughters, Aden Drake and Yates Drake. The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
