Obituary for Joe Franklin Downs Joe Franklin Downs, 85, of rural Tonganoxie, KS died July 20, 2018 at home. He was born February 21, 1933 to Charles Fenton Downs and Adele (Dehn). He graduated from Marshall High School and became an electrician.

Joe worked for the REA in Saline County, MO before moving to Kansas City, KS and working for the Griffin Wheel Company. After retiring, Joe kept a 60 acre farm, especially enjoying gardening and growing apples. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie Downs, his grandson Jason Downs, and two brothers, Melvin Downs and James Downs. He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Marilyn) Downs and James (Sue) Downs; three step-children, Michelle Schlight, Greg (Stacey) Baker, and Marta (Mike) Garrett; grandchildren Michael Downs, Matthew Downs, Rachael (Schlight) Hensley, Norman Schlight, Katherine Kraai, Gerald Kraai, Erin Kraai, and Fiona Kraai; siblings Charlene Carnes, Amanda McCord, Kathy Tindle, John Downs, Betsy Charles, Robert Downs, and Ken Downs; 8 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. After cremation, a celebration of his life will be August 18, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Basehor Baptist Church, 3714 N. 155th St., Basehor, KS.
