Joey D Papi Obituary Photo

Joey Papi, 27 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 25, 2019. Born in Portland, Maine on May 28, 1991, he was a loving son of Grace Romano and Joseph Papi, and his stepfather Eddie Howard. He was the beloved brother of Michael Papi and his wife, Morgan.

Joey was a most kind, generous, and loving person. Above all else he loved his family. He was a friend to all, open and welcoming to all he met, communicating soul-to-soul with compassion, intelligence and humor.

He dazzled us with his smile and charm, and mesmerized us with his artistic talents. He created the most amazingly intricate drawings – everything from the eclectic tattoo-worthy to the spot-on portraits. Each piece is a gem.

He was an avid chess player and dedicated athlete – he loved his Patriots! Joey had attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and Massachusetts School of Art and Design. After a very happy and productive period in recovery, Joey relapsed and lost his battle.

We continue to pray for all those touched by this disease. We were all the better for knowing and experiencing the sweetness of Joey. He never held back and always showed up.

He leaves us all with wonderful memories. Joey was predeceased by his father Joseph Papi, grandfather Henry Romano and grandparents Agamenone and Clementina Papi. Joey is survived by his mom, Grace Romano; step-dad, Eddie Howard; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Morgan Papi; step-brother Joseph Howard, grandmother, Anna Romano; Girlfriend Becky McHugh; godmother, Anne Romano and Uncle David Robinson; godfather Michael Romano and Uncle Miguel Guzman; Aunt Christina Davis; Uncle Rick Romano and Aunt Jina; Uncle Dan Romano and Aunt Diane; Aunt Dawna Nappi and Uncle Bill Dawson; Aunt Norma Francis; eleven loving and special cousins, and a world full of friends.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9 am on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Church, 72 Federal St., Portland at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, ME.
