John A. Roberts, 78, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Willa (Coons) Roberts for 59 years. John was born July 4, 1940, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Raymond and Josephine (LoBrutto) Roberts.

John owned and operated several businesses in Torrington over the past 49 years, including Litchfield Drapery and Blinds, Fashion Fabrics, Home Décor and the Mill Outlet. In addition to his wife, Willa, he is survived by three daughters, Christine McCormick and her husband Donald of Poughkeepsie, NY, Corinne Montepara and her husband Enrico of Ansonia, CT, Charlene Galt and her husband John of Conway, MA; one sister, Marie Mordeszewski of Torrington, CT; four grandchildren, Michelle Andersen and her husband Mark of Milford, CT, Cassandra Bystrek and her husband Matthew of Portland,CT , Winston Galt and Aidan Galt of Conway, MA, as well as nieces Maryann(Jay) Morse, Donna(Dan) Bielefield Merli, Karen(Jon) Day and several cousins, great nieces and great nephews . John was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph Mordeszewski.

John was a graduate of Torrington High School and attended Connecticut Teachers College. He was a past member of the Torrington Chapter Rotary Club and Toastmasters. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and a faithful follower of UCONN men and WOMEN’s Basketball teams.

John and Willa enjoyed traveling many places, meeting and talking with many people, but mostly enjoyed time with family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. Entombment will follow at St. Peter Mausoleum.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center Fund at Hartford Hospital at giving. hartfordhospital.org or Hartford Hospital-Giving, 80 Seymour St., P.O. 5037, Hartford, CT 06102-5037.
