Obituary for John D Beckham John Dewey Beckham entered into the kingdom of heaven August 28, 2018 to be with his Lord and Savior he loved so much. Born in Conway, SC on October 26, 1953, John was a son of Anne Bell Beckham and Francis Morgan Beckham, III. John attended Myrtle Beach Public Schools and graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1971, where he lettered in baseball.
In 1978 he graduated from the University of South Carolina, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. John went on to work with the FBI Columbia field office, and later became Conventions Service Manager at the Myrtle Beach Hilton. Upon leaving there, he worked with Coastal Federal in Banking Investments.
Last year John retired from Palmetto Government Benefits Administration where he was able to serve the veterans that he so admired and appreciated. John was proud to serve on the Myrtle Beach Honor Flight Committee that flew WWII veterans to Washington DC to be honored, exemplifying his passion and respect for all veterans. He and his family were devoted members of Socastee United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker.
From an early age, John was devoted to his Lord and lived his life that way. An avid sportsman, John absolutely loved duck hunting. All of his brothers and many of his friends will forever treasure their many memories of sharing time with him in a duck blind.
He was predeceased in death by his role model and father, Francis Morgan Beckham, III and “Kenzie”, his treasured Labrador retriever. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon Christopher Beckham, his daughters, Stephanie Michelle Beckham and Stacy N. Beckham both of Myrtle Beach. John leaves behind his mother, Anne Bell Beckham; brothers, Frank M. Beckham, IV (Linda), Thomas Guthrie Beckham (Carol), Warren Ogden Beckham (Kym); five nieces and one nephew, and too many cousins to count, all of whom he treasured.
He treasured his faith, family and friends and led an exemplary life. John will be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious smile. He desired to be cremated.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Socastee United Methodist Church located at 5575 Dick Pond Road, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588 on Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. There will be a reception following the service at the Church Hall. The family will receive visitors at Ms Anne’s house at 601 Dogwood Avenue, Myrtle Beach from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 3, 2018 or at John and Sharon’s home at 510 Charles Circle, Myrtle Beach. The family requests donations be made to Socastee United Methodist Church or the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Museum, located at 506 Speedway Blvd, Hampton, GA 30228.
