John’s Obituary John David (J.D.) Mrazek, born February 8, 1935 in Aqua Dulce, Texas to John and Mary Simcik Mrazek, passed away on March 8, 2019 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 84. John David Mrazek was an incredibly kind and humble man who made a difference in the lives of so many people. To everyone he met he was known simply as J.D. which conveyed his familiarity and warmth.
Those of us who were lucky enough to have traveled the journey of life with J.D. witnessed his loving and kind demeanor in his happy go lucky character. He had a generous heart and was always willing to help his family and friends in any way he could. J.D. proudly served in the Navy Reserves and was the epitome of the American Dream.
He was the son of a Czechoslovakian immigrant family of modest means who built their success on hard work and perseverance. His family was among the first Czech settlers in Nueces County developing the Mrazek Grubbing Plow which carved a rich farming kingdom out of the wild brush land along the Texas Gulf Coast. J.D. applied his traits of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to his education at Banquete Elementary, Driscoll School, and Robstown High School (class of 1953); then becoming a successful journeyman electrician providing for his wife of 60 years, Kay, and his family.
Appropriately, he was welcomed into the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW local 278 and became a lifetime member in this community. He later carried his electrical skills into working as a public servant for the City of Corpus Christi where he retired after decades of service. Despite all of his achievements, he remained humble at heart never forgetting who he was and where he came from.
J. D. was extremely proud of his Czech heritage and enjoyed celebrating at Czech festivals, even traveling to Jablunka Moravia Czechoslovakia to learn more about his descendants. Family was always an important part of J.D.’s life. He was born eleventh out of thirteen siblings and quickly learned that those who came before and after him helped him to gain wisdom about the world.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at his CircleM Ranch tending to cattle and working the land. J.D. is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Simcik Mrazek; his son, Jay Eugene Mrazek; his grandson, Jayson Gene Mrazek; his brothers, Emil, Franklin, and Daniel Mrazek; and sisters, Rosa, Johanna Bade Stull, Sybile Bade, Bernice Marshall, Dorothy Dacier, and Doris Carl. J.D. is survived by his wife, Kay Priour Loudon Mrazek; his daughter, Marian (Randy) Lyde; his son, Ronnie (Cindy) Mrazek; his six grandchildren; Brandon Withrow, Reyann Davis, Ryan Lyde, Carrie Mrazek, Dezaraie Tovar, and Matthew Mrazek; his six great-grandchildren; Cayla, Casey, Reylie, Lincoln, Rosie, and Carlie; his three sisters, Marie Clarke, Betty (Tommy) Goodridge, and Bobbie Perkins; and many nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of J.D.’s life will occur on Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds where the Mrazek Grubbing Plow will be on display.
