John’s Obituary Memorial services for John Frederick Lohmann, 62, of Fairview will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. John was born April 16, 1956, to Jack Irving and Frances La Verne (Meyer) Lohmann in Kansas City, MO. and passed away peacefully at his home in Fairview on Christmas morning.

John grew up in Neosho MO. and graduated high school in 1974. While in high school, he was active in band, Choraleers and ROTC.

After graduation he attended the University of Arkansas where he was an engineering student, ROTC cadet, and a member of Theta Tau engineering fraternity. During his time at college he also ran the family business, Lohman Duck Calls, after his dad had open heart surgery. In 1979, he graduated with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and attended Navigation School, and was assigned to serve as an Electronic Warfare Officer on the B52 Stratofortress (known to many as the BUFF). John served many roles in the Air Force, including Flight Test officer, Airfield Manager, and Test Range Commander. On December 31, 1992, John separated from the active Air Force and entered into the Air Force Reserve.

He was then promoted to the rank of Major, and separated from the reserves in 1995. In 1992, John returned to the University of Arkansas to work on his master’s degree, and started working as a computer programmer for Artran. In 1997, John married Cheryl (Marlin) Farley in Rogers, Arkansas, and at the young age of 42 he became a father of two boys.

John and Cheryl started their lives together and built a home in Rogers, Arkansas. In 1998 he started working for Acxiom and teaching at the University of Arkansas until 2000, when they moved to Conway Arkansas. In 2001, he left the company to teach Computer Programing at Remington College in Little Rock Arkansas.

Late in 2009, they moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas and John went to work for Golden Living as a computer programmer. In 2012, John and Cheryl moved permanently to Fairview to help take care of his mother-in-law. In June of 2015, John was diagnosed with Carcinoma of the Mandible and for the next 3 years he battled the cancer and its treatments.

John loved cooking and was still creating computer programs until he died. He loved to watch OKC Thunder games with Cheryl. He loved his family and his dogs and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents and parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl of Fairview; two sons, Brandon Joseph Farley of Anut, MO. , and Tyler John Lohmann and wife Jennifer of Damascus, AR.

; one grandson Colton Lee Lohmann. He is also survived by one brother, Gary Lohmann and wife Bonnie of Neosho, MO. , mother-in-law, Jeannie Marlin of Fairview, one niece and three nephews, four great nephews and one great niece.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) cancer division with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
