Retired MSGT-E7 John Hills Van Horn, widower of Sally Van Horn, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 15, 2019. A native of Rootstown, Ohio he was born Oct. 10, 1919, to the late Herman Henry and Cornelia Hibbard Van Horn.

John graduated from the West Point Academy and entered the Air Force, from which he retired after 24 years. During his time serving our Country he served in 3 wars, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and was stationed in England until 1966. While serving in the Air Force he was an instructor of jet engines and aerial gunnery in WWII and was also a part of the Berlin Airlift.

John was a former US government employee, having been employed by multiple federal agencies. Since he taught surveying at the Community College, he was employed by the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska, during which time he created maps of the area. He will be fondly remembered for the happiness that he brought to their family by a daughter Kathleen Huggins, husband Don, sons Lyle Van Horn, wife Marilyn, and Craig Van Horn, wife Patricia, as well as his 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, his nieces and nephews and his many friends at Bridgepointe.

He was preceded in death by brothers Bob and George Van Horn. A Graveside Remembrance with military honors will be held 2:30 Friday, March 22, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Chaplin Dolan officiating. We grieve because we love.
