John Irwin Barnes Jr, August 14, 1936 — July 22, 2018

Obituary for Mr. John Irwin Barnes, Jr. John ‘Johnny’ Irwin Barnes, Jr., age 81 of Conyers, died Sunday, July 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alberta Barnes; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Barnes. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Betty Jo Bramlett Barnes; sons and daughter-in-law, John ‘Butch’ and Lisa Barnes, Allen Delayne Barnes; grandchildren, Traci and Jason McBay, John Edwin Barnes, Missy and Adam Sherling, Bill and Amelia Daniel, Matthew Barnes, Savannah Barnes; great-grandchildren, Jack Sherling, Will Sherling, Rylan Daniel, Elizabeth Daniel, Brynlee McBay, Ellison McBay, Harlan McBay; nephew, Tom Jones; cousin, Virginia Buttrill.

Mr. Barnes was a 1954 graduate of Conyers High School. He was one of the founding members of St. Simon’s Episcopal Church, and he was instrumental in organizing The Rockdale Youth Baseball League at the American Legion. He retired from Kemper Insurance as a Marketing Manager.

After retirement, John and his wife, Betty Jo were able to travel extensively all over Europe and the United States. Post retirement, John worked for Reagen’s Pharmacy delivering medications. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Simon’s Episcopal Church with Rev.

Jane Weston officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe be made to St. Simon’s Episcopal Church at 1522 HWY 138 NE, Conyers, GA 30013.
