OBITUARY John J. Dragan, Sr June 25, 1939 – August 22, 2018 Play Tribute Movie John J. Dragan, age 79, passed away Wednesday, August 22nd. Born on June 25, 1939 to his late European immigrant parents, Andrew and Alice Dragan, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elaine. He leaves behind his five children-Joan Bossi, Jean Sisto, Diane Impastato, John Dragan Jr., and Catherine Framness, his loving sister, Helen Quackenbush, his brother-in-law William Quackenbush, and his nephew Jason Quackenbush.

He also leaves behind 13 loving grandchildren. John earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Connecticut in 1961 where he also excelled in track and football. Upon graduation John went to work on the construction of a section of the NYS thruway known as the Northway.

In his early career John also served as Blooming Grove Town Engineer and worked on the design and expansion of Stewart International Airport. Later in his professional life John was Director of Construction Management for Metro North Commuter Railroad. His last project before retirement was the successful renovation and restoration of Grand Central Terminal including the renowned celestial ceiling located on the Main Concourse.

John’s straightforward reputation was well known to planning board members throughout Orange County due to his private engineering and land surveying work which engaged his nights and weekends for over forty years. John was an avid reader and took particular interest in the history of the Civil War. He was known in his community for his plentiful vegetable garden which he most enjoyed sharing with friends and family.

John will be most remembered for his dedication to family, his reputation for honesty, his outstanding work ethic, and his tireless effort to provide for and encourage higher education for his children and grandchildren.
