John J. Thoresz of Milltown, NJ passed away on January 24, 2019 at Greenwood House, Ewing, NJ. He was 97 years old. Born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ, he relocated to Milltown in 1952.

He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church. John was employed as a Credit Manager for over 20 years by Permacel (J&J). He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1942-1946 in the Pacific Theater of WWII aboard the USS Columbia CL56.

In the years following his service he was a founder and president of the USS Columbia CL56 Association. John was a member of American Legion Joyce Kilmer Post 25, Milltown. A natural athlete, he excelled at baseball, football, basketball, golf, and bowling.

He was a much-sought-after Johnson & Johnson golf and bowling team partner. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary of 66 years in 2017, John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Rhonda Thoresez, daughter and son-in-law Christine and John O’Connor, grandsons Phillip and James and his wife Catherine, great-grandson Liam, and nephew Ron T. Thoresz and his wife Jamie. Family and friends will be received Thursday 2-6pm at the Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown.

The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church followed by interment at B.G. Wm. C. Doyle Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
