John “J. B” Bunyan McCoy June 8, 1924 – January 7, 2019 John Bunyan “J.B.” McCoy, age 94, passed away on, Monday, January 7, 2019 at Fair Haven in Forest City. Born in Franklin, he was the son of the late Isaac Newton and Lula Dean Miller McCoy.

J.B.enlisted in the United States Marines at the age of 17 and served during WWII. He was a member of the V. F. W. J.B. was a plant manager and retired from the Dover Mill Group. He enjoyed gardening and loved to share his produce with his friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, J.B. is preceded in death by six brothers, Elmer McCoy, Earl McCoy, Paul McCoy, Howard McCoy, Emory McCoy, Isaac McCoy, and four sisters, Leona Cobb, Myrtle McCoy, Judie Landers, Gracie McCoy. J.B. is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lois Hayes McCoy, a son, John B. McCoy Jr. (Carol) of High Point; three girls, Jean McCoy (Rick Travis) of Spencer, Fonda McCoy Cromer (Philip) Mooresboro, Sherry McCoy Pauley (Herman) of Pawleys Island SC. ; five grandchildren, Nicole Broughton (Burt), Kenny Pauley, Amber Pauley Hicks, Matthew McCoy (Rachel), and Daniel Cromer; eight great grandchildren, Clay Whitworth, Alyssa Broughton, Madison Hicks, Ben Pauley, Johnathan McCoy, Elainna McCoy, Amanda Hooper (Matt), and Andi Harsey (Andy); and four great great grandchildren, Wesley, Waylon, Wayah, and Finley.

Born: June 8, 1924 Death: January 7, 2019 Memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:30am in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Ervin Price officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Council on Aging Neal Senior Center Meals on Wheels, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
