John L. Rostorfer, 90, of Delphos, passed away Saturday evening, January 19, 2019 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born November 5, 1928 in Wapakoneta to Clifford and Margaret (Cook) Rostorfer, who both preceded him in death. On March 29, 1952, he married Eleanor (Briggs) Rostorfer, who preceded him in death on October 16, 2001.

John is survived by five sons, Dan (Margie) Rostorfer, Jeff (Deb) Rostorfer, Tim (Diane) Rostorfer, Scott (Kelly) Rostorfer, and Brad (Kathy) Rostorfer, all of Delphos; and a daughter, Cindy (Pat) Murray of Gahanna. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Judy Rostorfer of Wapakoneta, Jo Ann Briggs, and Patricia (Roger) Brinkman, both of Delphos; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Rostorfer was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Frank Rostorfer; sisters, Lovina Madigan and Julia Minnich; sisters-in-law, Patricia Rostorfer, and Lorene Feathers; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Madigan, Warren Minnich, William Feathers, and Roger Briggs; and one great-grandson, John Murray.

John was a lifelong carpenter, having owned and operated Rostorfer & Sons Contracting in Delphos. He and his sons built, remodeled, or re-roofed many, many homes in the tri-county area. People today still remembered and talked with John about the time he worked on their homes.

John was also a former Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed fishing and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and Jefferson Wildcat fan.

John was a Korean War Veteran, having earned various medals, being most proud of having earned a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post 3035 and American Legion Post 268. He was also a member of Eagles Aerie 471, where he held numerous positions, including many years as president.

Military honors conducted by Delphos Veterans Council will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, followed by the funeral service at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. Rev. Gary Fish will be officiating.

Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, January 25, with a Fraternal Order of Eagles service held at 7:45 p.m.; and an hour before the service on Saturday, at Weber Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation, Delphos Community Health Professionals, The Meadows of Delphos, or Delphos Christian Union Church.
