JJohn Matthew Turner, Sr, 89, born on January 28, 1929 in High Point, NC to John and Josephine Turner. He was the second of four children. John received his formal education in North Carolina to the sixth grade.

He also worked hard to obtain his Captain license. He spent many years accomplishing his self- taught education which launched entrepreneurial ventures in landscaping, house painting, real estate owner, property manager, and mechanics. He began working as a janitor and worked his way up to Millwright at Timken’s.

Also, John worked at Riverside Hospital, Lockbourne AFB, and Marianne’s as a security guard. John retired from Timken’s Roller Bearing Plant after 32 years of service. After he retired he worked for Transportation Res as a driver.

John was committed to his role as a Mason. He successfully devoted his time as a Guarding Angel to protect and safe guard his community. He proudly served as an Elder at the Watkins Road Church of Christ congregation as an evangelist and spiritual leader.

He exuberantly enjoyed the water doing activities such as fishing, swimming, boating. He owned a yacht where he loved being the captain of his watercraft. He also loved driving, traveling, and road trips especially to historical places.

He would teach the young about how to make a better life. He was the inventor of seven patents, made the first child car seat in 1959, and he was an author of several poems. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He was married to Mary K Turner for 64 years before her passing. John and Mary raised six children and two foster children. John was predeceased by son, James H. L. Turner (M.I.A), his parents, John and Josephine Turner and siblings, Wilford Morrison and Mary Edna Chambers.

John is survived by his son, John M. (Teri) Turner, Jr., son, Ronald W. R (Chong Chi) Turner, daughter, Ey Vonne W. J. (Ernest) Vargas Smith, daughter, Eyvette W. J. Turner, daughter, Eynnette Bailey, son, Paul Wlliams, Mkeshell Williams, sister, Hazel Turner. Grandchildren John M Turner III, Linda Moore, Lisa (Kobie) James, Brian Breslin, Jason Turner, Stephanie Hammond, James Turner, Jr., Tonia (Shawn) Sowers, Tony I. Vargas II, Tonika (Myron) Gordon, Tonietta Vargas, Steven (Sharneen) Sloan, Lanika (Deontay) Sloan-Stepney, Michael Bailey, Marrelle Bailey. Great-Grand Children Autumn Turner, Ashton Turner, Alyssa Moore, Kristen Moore, Jasmine (Thomas) McDonald, Chanise Chappelle, Hope Chappelle, Diamond Lee, Tony I. Vargas III, Makayla Vargas, Wayne L. Martin, Jr., Malachi Martin, John Martin, Kyron Gordon, Myron Gordon, Quayshawn Johnson, Tarissa Sloan, Serenity Sloan, Tatyana Chesley, Deontay C. Stepney, Jr., Tay’Von Stepney.

Great-Great Grandchildren Reina McDonald, Alena Turner. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Church of Christ, 1614 Watkins Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43207 at 10 AM where the family will accept friends from 9 AM until the time of the service.
