John Richard Darrington, 64 John Richard Darrington, 64, passed away October 7, 2018 at his home in Wallace, Idaho. He was born on January 9, 1954 in Lewiston, Idaho. John was the son of James and Josephine (Biel) Darrington.

John was born and raised in North Idaho. He graduated from Troy High School, class of 1972. He worked in Hawaii and Canada.

John earned his Associates Degree in Computer Networking from North Idaho College. John spent most of his life working on a dry land farm and in the timber industry. He moved to Wallace in 2005.

John worked at the Lucky Friday Mine until his retirement in August of 2017. While John spent the majority of his life elsewhere, he considered Wallace his home. While living in Wallace, John met his lifelong companion Mary Jane Bair.

John was passionate about the outdoors and photography. He was a self-taught photographer who loved to hike to mountain peaks and lakes to capture the perfect lighting. John was always behind the camera and was rarely captured in photographs.

He was an animal lover and was especially fond of dogs. At a young age, John developed a great appetite and would never turn down a meal. John’s mom frequently baked pies.

John was a self-taught pie baker and was proud that he had perfected his rhubarb pie. John was an active member of the Wallace Rotary Club. He joined in 2007 and served as president in 2008-09.

John was also was very involved with the Wallace community. John valued education and donated money to many scholarships in the area. He supported students planning to major in Liberal Arts.

He volunteered and donated his photographs to many charities and fundraisers. John was a very caring and compassionate man. John is survived by: his brothers, Joe, George, and Frank; his sister, Jane and his niece, Nancy, with whom he had a close relationship; Mary Jane’s children, Carrie and Charlie Roberts, whom he considered his own children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jane, his sister Judy, and his brother James. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Wallace with Father Jerome Montez serving as celebrant. The family invites you for a meal and fellowship at the Wallace Elks following the service.
