John Wayne Lee,74, of Seneca, SC, passed away peacefully into Gods loving arms, on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at home after an extended illness. He was born December 24, 1943 in Jamaica, NY to the late Mary and George Lee. He was one of six boys and grew up on Long Island, NY.

John prodly served in the Navy from 1962 to 1966. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Linda Drescher, a nurse while visiting his father in the hospital. The couple settled down in Islip, NY John working for AT&T… Read More » and Linda at Smithtown General Hospital.

They had three daughters, Cathryn, Janet, and Diane. In 1978, the family moved to Seneca, SC, after John was transferred to BellSouth. The family embraced southern culture and they thrived.

John eventually retired from Southern Bell after 35 years, but continued to work as a contract instructor for AT&T/U-Verse and also volunteered at Collins Children’s Home tutoring and mentoring young children, which he enjoyed very much. John enjoyed the beach and took family vacations to Holden Beach, NC for many years. He also enjoyed sailing, collecting Hess trucks, Texaco trucks and airplanes.

John and Linda also enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean during retirement. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his greatest joy in life was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he was extremely proud of all of them. He was predeceased in death by his parents and brothers: Preston, Dickie and Billy.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; children: Cathryn Ann Hindman (Gene) of Lake Wylie, SC, Janet Marie Epperson (Bobby) of Athens, GA, Diane Margaret Cobb (Chad) of Mountain Rest, SC; grandchildren: Elizabeth Barnes, Allyson Barnes, Samantha Cobb & Gracie Cobb; step-grandchildren: Bailey Hindman & Karly Hindman; great-grandchildren: Brandyn, Thomas & Cassie. He is also survived by two brothers & a host of in-laws, nieces & nephews & friends. A graveside will be conducted Thursday October 25, 2018 at 1PM at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Dr. Anderson, SC 29621.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Collin’s Childrens Home, 110 Collins Home Dr., Seneca, SC 29672.
