BEVERLY – John X. “Jack” Coffey, 87, died Saturday, December 8, 2018 in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Fellows) Coffey who died in 2004. Born in Lewiston, Maine on September 1, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Marion (McLean) Coffey.

He was a graduate of Lewiston High School class of 1950. He received his BA Degree from St. Anselm’s College, Goffstown, NH class of 1959 and went on to receive his… Read More » Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Boston University class of 1968. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served in Libya and was honorably discharged in 1954.

After teaching for four years in New Hampshire, Jack taught at the Briscoe Junior High School in Beverly from 1970 through 1988. Upon his retirement from teaching in 1988, he became a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Beverly, ultimately retiring in 1994. Jack enjoyed music, reading and was an avid sports fan with a great sense of humor that he loved sharing with family and friends.

Jack is survived by his niece, Theresa Keresztes of Wellesley; two nephews, John Plante of Cape Elizabeth, ME and James Coffey of Hopkinton; several great-nieces and great-nephews and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Plante and two brothers, Thomas and Daniel Coffey. His funeral services will be privately held in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover, NH at the convenience of the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 of Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave. , Salem, MA 01970. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
